What is Folk Music?

Introduction

Have you ever wondered what kinds of music there are? Well, I was going through genres of music and I stopped at a certain genre. It was folk music. I usually always listen to pop music, but I never heard of folk music. I was a bit curious. Three things that I found interesting about folk songs is that the word "folk" refers to the customs and traditions that are passed down through the generations by the common people, traditional folk has been around for as long as music has been around, but the term "folk music" wasn't really used until the 1800s, and folk music can refer to both traditional types of music and the modern notion of folk music that arose during the 1960s in the U.S.A.

My Opinion

To me, folk songs are soothing and comforting. I listened to one folk song and it was soft and calming. That is because folk music is, "... acoustic guitars and soft, quiet music that their parents would enjoy," as it states in the article on Wonderopolis(http://wonderopolis.org/wonder/what-is-folk-music/). " It tells the stories of the common people in language they can understand," it says in the article. This means that folk music can come in different languages. Also, they can tell a story. Like most music, their stories can be heart-warming or sad. Folk music, like any other music, has a meaning behind it. Folk music's instrument can include acoustic guitars, the violin, and an accordion.
